The Film
Some wounds don’t begin with hate. They begin with love twisted into control.
Skyler, a writer living under the care of her mother, Leah, struggles with anorexia and bulimia while trying to hold onto a sense of identity beyond her illness.
Leah sees herself as her daughter’s protector, but her relentless criticism, obsession with appearances, and need for control only tighten the grip of Skyler’s disorder. As Skyler begins to question the beliefs that have shaped her self-image, she is forced to confront the complicated bond between love, approval, and the need to survive.
Written in the Dark explores the shadowed origins of Skyler’s story and the relationship that helped shape the woman audiences later meet in Written in the Light.
